Birds of a Feather:
Science Gateways and You
Birds of a Feather
TimeWednesday, July 255pm - 6pm
DescriptionScience gateways can transform a research area by providing broad access to resources, can create broader impacts for software development teams by providing that software as a service, and can promote the institutions and regional associations where they are hosted.
Do you have a software package you would like to make widely available? Are you thinking about how to organize your campus research computing group to better support the gateways? Do you have students who would like to learn how to build science gateways? Are you trying to connect cyberinfrastructure components and don’t know where to begin? Do you have a gateway, but want to increase your user community or improve usability? Are you just curious about science gateways? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then this is the BoF for you.
The BoF will provide an overview of support services that are available to the research community, including science gateway sustainability planning, usability, security, and developer support consulting services. The BoF will include a panel of those who have used NSF-funded gateway development services, specifically the Science Gateways Community Institute and XSEDE’s Extended Support for Science Gateways. They will share experiences using these services and will be available for audience Q&A. Discussions will include the best ways to support science gateways on campuses, to deliver scientific software as a service, to enable or increase scientific collaboration, and other science gateway use cases.
