Campus Champions: Celebrating Ten Years of Building Community in Service of Workforce Development
TimeThursday, July 2611:15am - 12pm
DescriptionOrganized in 2008 as part of the NSF-funded TeraGrid and XSEDE projects, the Campus Champions community has grown to include approximately 430 research computing professionals from over 230 institutions in every US state and 3 US territories and is now the largest community of its kind. 2018 marks the ten-year anniversary of the Campus Champions program and this panel seeks to celebrate our diverse community of research computing professionals.
Although our community is geographically spread across the US, Champions communicate on a regular basis via a very active mailing list where ideas are exchanged, problems solved and opportunities or resources are shared as well as regular conference calls where the Champion community discusses topics of interest locally and at the national level. Champions’ roles vary depending on the size of their institution and the nature of their position. The main role of our Champions is helping their institution’s researchers, educators, and scholars with their computing-intensive and data-intensive research, education, scholarship, and/or creative activity.
After a brief overview of the program, this panel of champions will discuss their experiences, the professional impact of belonging to this community and answer questions. This discussion is open to current Champions as well as colleagues interested in learning more about our program.
