Student Program Opening Activity

DescriptionSTUDENT PROGRAM Opening Activity is held the evening of the night before the Tutorial Day. It consists of a 3-hour session where the students meet with the Student Committee and receive advise about how to maximize their participation at the meeting. This will be followed by a safety and security orientation for the meeting and the city of Pittsburgh. They will then participate of two invited talks. We have obtained a commitment from Dr. Michael J. Besich, Chairman and Distinguished University Professor, Department of Biomedical Informatics at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine who will talk on The Role of High-Performance Computing in Biomedical Informatics. He will be followed by an invited speaker who will talk about Bioethics and Responsible Conduct of Research and Big Data. A talk on alternative careers in cyber-law enforcement will be given by a Special Agent in the Pittsburgh FBI. This is part of the Student Program for the meeting and part of the activities in the nih funding that has been applied for.
